A Root Canal Preparation

Introduction

What is a root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment is the process by which a dentist or an endodontist (root canal specialist) treats the inner parts of a tooth, the inside area that has canals and occupied by its pulp tissue or also known as nerve fibers. More info here.

Preparing for a root canal treatment is not that easy for some people, and even harder for most people who develop anxiety before or during a dental procedure. Because one doesn't know what to expect and could not tell what can possibly happen, everything becomes so mysterious even while going through the process.

Once the part of the mouth that will be treated is under the local anesthesia (numbness of the area near the tooth), one can only smell the medicine, hear and see the equipments and tools being used, and finally feel only the pressure being applied to the tooth.

With these in mind, one can just imagine different things that is going on inside the tooth. Stress can also be a factor.

With the sustained reclined position on the dental chair, the spot light glaring on the face, and just the eyes of the dentist or endodontist, and the dental assistant watching every movements, one is left with an actual tensed mood.

For some who can remain calm and even doze off, the anticipation may not be as intense than for those who wished this was over or soon to be over as soon as possible.

One thing for sure, as for the local anesthesia on the involved part of the mouth, it only helps the area to be treated in particular. This does not involve the critical areas that are not related to the root canal problems.

These areas are the ones that can cause discomfort and even pain during and after a prolonged sustained position, dependent upon the whole duration of the treatment. So to prepare for such procedure, one can ask, "Do I really need a root canal?", “Am I going to hurt in other parts of the body?”

Whether you had a root canal before or not, this site is dedicated to preparing for a root canal procedure with series of exercises for the head (neck) and jaws prior and after the treatments.
